Yokoso Singapore

- Never Stop Dreaming -

Whooo...in less than 48 hours I will be taking a plane back to SG. The anxiety of going home and sleeping on my stench-drenched bed is growing as the clock's ticking down. The all so familiar faces and places, all the food, fun and games. Yep I am definitely looking forward to all those.

And even before my arrival, there were already people planning out my schedule like who to meet and what to do. If time permits, I would humbly grace all these events that are all so dear to me. Feels like "The Foreign Minister" for diplomatic relations between SG and JPN.

But if you ask me, deep down somewhere in my heart I am more excited to come back here for another White Winter. Can't deny it but since the insane experience of winter last year, I really really yearn for it day in and day out.

Alrite, some last words here..for all those people who are good ( you know who you are ), Christmas might be coming a bit early.

The long arms of the law.

- Never Stop Dreaming -

Upon reading the news, I was swept of my feet with wilderment. This is yet another high profile figure being caught with his pants down but the HUGE difference in this one is that he is cleanly shaven, draped in pale tunic and a very much respected figure of religion.

He, in question have scaled buildings and attempted insane feats to capture the audiences' sympathy just to rake in funds for the "right" cause. But is he really doing all these to justify the need to rake in zillions simply for charity, or are there other hidden motives behind it?

Well done Mr Ren Ci Master, Very Vulnerable Shi Ming Yi...although no evidence have been pointed against you for the intended usage of those syphoned funds, I really won't give you any credit this time simply because you lack originality. T.T. Durai have clearly spearheaded the SG "Bogus" Charity campaign and have even landed himself first place in Wikipedia so I have to say "Sorry dude, copycats are as good as piracy so go carve your niche somewhere else!" Even Edison can come up with unique pants down situation so try harder Mr Monk.

Thankfully I so happen to be one of those really irritating wackos that your parents, bosses and friends have warned you about concerning donations and charities. Hell yeah, they were damn right...of all those blood and sweat that I have toiled to make these few measely pennies, I can comfortably say maybe a mere SGD$50 had slipped outta my grasp these 27 years to charities. Hmm...maybe only to animals and other non human related purposes.

Once again, I see people who have believed in faith so blindly that they have lost their cause for believing. There are even people who will stand against justice just to preserve their faith. Somehow I have seen more adversities brought forth by faith than any other known anomalities. So let me remind you once and again that...

Faith, as a religion have blinded so many fools who are readily prepared to toss their money away. (Remember God only help people who are born dumb and not those who choose to be DUMB!)

Faith, as a religion have torn lands and brought wars. (Remember the Crusades, Nazis, Terrorism?)

Faith, as a religion have been tarnished and is nothing more than a celebrity status. (Remember the new religion created by some Holly "Cow" Wood celebrity who believes in signs? Or the not so bright Sun Ho "Ho Ho Ho" from SG sometime ago?)

As much as I respect the man in question, I really give you the upmost honour to use God's name like using toilet paper, use and throw. Is God there for you to believe in the first place? Are lingos like karma and retribution even remotely close to your sanity? Then again what makes you any different from other extremists like the Fa Lun Gong sect or the Aum Shinrikyo.

Hmm, not to slay any followers of any particular religion but I would simply like to remind people that God and religion are something beyond science and cannot be measured. It's is probably better to take them with a pinch of salt. Unless I meet God in the face one day, I will try not to offend God but neither will I contribute to God's cause blindly. So you bet I will be keeping my eyes peeled to see how the God and Justice tag team take down these bogus cons as God's team are down 1 to the Bogus Cons.

It sure feels like home

- Never Stop Dreaming -

Over the weekend, interesting events happened and boy was I glad. Attended a toned down Gion Matsuri (祇園祭) in HonMachi (本町), Komoro where Japanese Mikoshi (神輿) were being carried along the streets. You know those huge insane and heavy structures like oversized Chinese sedans carried by the towns people dress in Happi(s) where they rock it and spin it wildly like Sanja Matsuri (Click here for info) in Asakusa, Tokyo and the real Gion Matsuri (Click here for more info) in Kyoto. This was simply a minature version of it but nonetheless, it was impressive.

After the festival, there was a mini company getogether where the Singaporean (SG), Canadian (CA), American (AM) and the New Zealander (NZ) slug it out for the last man standing. It was outright funny when the NZ spurted how disgusted he, comparing Singapore and New Zealand 40 years down the road from 1960s. He said, "Back then Singapore was pretty much on the same level as us or even lower if I could remembered it but now, look where we are. You guys are already way past the infrastructure age and moving into space age where we are still rearing sheeps and throwing stones." I liked the man...and his name was James.

The other 2 contender were the Canadian, Adam and his friend Derrick whom I met only on Saturday. None the less all agreed to the SG when I fished out the infamous ROTAN. End of the day, it was a draw.

On Sunday, took on the role of a photographer for my friend's 1st darts contest held in his humble shop. Yep it was pretty crowded and intense but too bad there weren't much fluctuations in the mixture of genders. Being a photographer, I was prepared for an eye candy experience but was left pretty disappointed when there were only 2 females there among the the sea of guys in black. Hmmm I guess it's time I audition somewhere else.

So on Sunday night while driving back home I met Bambi's cousins. 2 adolescent deers were right in the path leading to my house and yep, they were gorgeous. Passing them about 500 metres, 2 racoons were trailing the roadside and another 300 metres later, a single lone fox crossed the road. Night safari right in the neighbourhood where I live, now ain't that cool.

That's so much for the weekend but I did remembered last year during winter, I did entered a post mocking my fellow Singaporeans how I am enjoying the white winter in their abscence. Right here right now, I deeply regreted those words. For the crazy summer heat had caught up with me. To think that I left Singapore for that brain-roasting weather, it actually followed me all the way here. *Sob* *Sob* I am sad...Feeling sticky and lethargic, I can't find the motivation to do anything. And in the attempt to appease my inner desire, I have became a full nudist in my own house. This house traps more heat in summer and offer less heat retention in winter so in fact I am getting the most out out nature. Luckily for me there are not may "Complain Kings" here to paparazzi my nude shots...hehe and no HDB to come knocking on my door. Alrite that's occasional...

So how's it back in SG? For the Kampung Kid is due to return soon...but back home I guessed it's much worse rite? Ok ok...you are most welcome to join me here this winter and you can be sure I won't charge you a single cent for my own "Petting Zoo" located right outside my house.

Microsoft, what more can I say.

- Never Stop Dreaming -

Great that Mr Gates has finally decided to throw in the towel. With Vista looming in the shadows and the exponential increase of Windows related deadly virus, I am sure the new CEO who now hold the reins of the most powerful company in the world would have a pretty good time adjusting to his new corner office, racking his brains.

Yep I have been a Win user for donkey years and was really reluctant to change to other OS, namely Linux, UNIX, and other less virus prone systems. But like evolution, I find myself never looking back since I took the plunge for a change. Currently the 2 main OS eyeing the consumers' pockets at the moment are Apple and Microsoft. But after looking at various options, sources and doing my homework, these are the factors that I considered for the change.

Win -

Run on almost 85% of the world's computers and I am pretty sure I won't see Osama running around with a MacBook Pro. Probably the most exploited OS till date because it's really universal. Supports great piracy until Vista came along and took over as the No. 1 most hated OS. Super unstable and crashes more often than you can count your ex boyfriends or girfriends. By being universal, tons of programs are built on this OS and therefore opens up to a vast choices of after market software. Because of this there are also infinite bugs, virus, worms, etc. Once the "Blue Screen of Death" flashes in your face in the most crucial moments, you can safely hurl this OS out of the window.

Mac OS -

Being derieved from some UNIX ancestry, this is by far one of the most stable software I have used. Straight of the package with absolutely no knowledge prior, I find myself cruising comfortable around the OS for it is relatively simple to use. So far there have been no unnecessary virus updates, or infection so quarantine is not neccessary. This means no extra money spent on Anti Virus programs or irritating scheduled scanning. But the darkside is that being superbly stable and virus free means that there are tons of software that are not compatible with Macs. So you have to find alternatives which are troublesome. People who uses Macs are stereotyped as being selfish (like the OS), self-centred, proud and being a perfectionist. And Macs are overly hyped and clearly excelling in the asethetics department only.

So my verdict after comparing these compelling factors is that...Yep I would still go for the Mac over the Win because the Apples outside the Windows are too good to be appreciated from the inside. So ditch your old windows and go out, talk a walk and pluck those innocent white Apples and savour them. Like me, once you take the plunge you'd never look back.

A point to note is that yep, some Apple users tend to to be a bit snobbish and over the top but the rest are simply humble people who likes to specialize their equipment to bring out the best in Arts, Design and Music. Being perfectionists in their own nature can only yield greater heights so we can all appreciate their marvelous works.

Macs are great for designing and arts like Photoshop, Illustrater, Flash. Macs are great for photography because of the colors they render from their screens. Macs are great for music like DJing and stuffs because running programs like Traktor and Virtual DJ tends to be relatively stable. Macs are great for display because there is nothing even close to it.

But Macs are bad at gaming, tons of MSword, Powerpoint and Excel related operations. You would be better off using the Win.

I am surprised I got so carried away with this insane never ending comparisions that I missed the main point altogether. Alrite...because recently I have been experiencing this unusual "Font" transformation with Microsoft Hotmail (only on Win systems). Everytime I logged in and click on something like Inbox or Junk, the fonts size just bizarrely changes to the biggest or smallest fonts. Occasionally when accessing it from my Mac, a stupid banner will just pop up and blanks the rest of the page. I have to click refresh to get back to the page. The "Magic" font change experience is not available on the Mac by the way. So I was actually intending to flame Microsoft in this entry but the good Mac side of me saved the harsh words to Microsoft.

Thanks Microsoft for never failling to piss people off.
Whatever.

The clock is ticking...

- Never Stop Dreaming -

Sometimes I really wonder if it's better be quiet if one have nothing good to say. But well if there are other remedies for the expulsion of explicit thoughts, I would say go do it. No one is gonna get hurt so further complications are spared. Yep I am a little displaced right now as a throbbing random pulse is wrecking havoc in my head...might be a blocked artery or something. So I am indeed struggling since last night but the early morning rain and the dense background of white fog is a consolation otherwise.

Once again making sense of cents, neglected my mum's advice and here I am dreading over the insane oil prices. This global phenomenon have adversely affected my pay check and why, because I have secured my trip back to SG in the midst of the soaring oil prices. You see my mum had asked to me get the tixs earlier because of the soaring oil prices some 4 months ago but because each time I go online to check the prices, it's always hovering around the ¥50,000 region. Little to my understanding that this is just the surface price EXCLUDING the taxes and fuel cost.

Dang! That one damage from clicking the "Confirmation" button on my mouse proved almost fatal. "Your final price for a 2 way round trip ticket from Narita bound for SG is....¥82,000" "Wah Kaoz!" I yelled in the abscence of no one (yeah I live alone in the mountains in a 300 year old hut!) and "ouch!" that hurts. Converted to SG it would be like over a thousand to go home and then come back (and continue my meditation...hahaha!)

By this time the SG side of me have clearly banished my other personalities and facades. Lah, Li, and Lor came spewing out from my mouth followed by the Kan Na Sai (KNS) and other ambiguities that only a TRUE SGrean can understand.

Alrite that aside and apart from the fact that I will touch down in SG on 24th July and depart on the 18th of Aug, つまり、「ただいま」ということです。Yep "Yokoso SG" for the kampung kid has return. Back in SG, here are the things I want to do (not according to any order of importance) -

1. Eat Roti Prata
2. Eat Char Siew and BBQ Pork Rice
3. Eat Wantan Mee
4. Eat Bah Chor Mee
5. Eat Nasi Goreng Ayam
6. Eat Nasi Lemak
7. Eat Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia
8. Eat Famous Amos Cholocate Chip Cookie
9. Eat Vegetarian
10. Eat everthing else that is Singaporean

for beefing up to prepare for winter.

11. Chill at St. James
12. Chill at Equinox
13. Chill at Altivo
14. Chill at Ministry of Sound
15. Chill at Zouk

for all the lost night life.

16. Go see my brother's new house
17. Go see my Grandma
18. Go out with my friends
19. Go to the Army Market
20. Go shopping

for fulfilling my obligations

And here are the things I want to avoid.

1. Running into Made in China people
2. Eating Japanese Food
3. Not have time for watching Channel 8 dramas
4. Go for reservice

Got myself a MADE IN JAPAN (yeah I can't stress more) Technics RP-DJ1200 K headphones to pamper my audiophile geeky nature after the alleged Made in China Crap sank on me. Sounds great I would say but these babies are cheap here and lethal in SG. Still trying to break in the sound by pumping hard trance over the next couple of days. So by the time I fly back to SG I will have them plugged in to my Ipod Touch or PSP to ride it out on the trains or long road trips. But before that I have already scheduled them for the trip to Tokyo and then from Tokyo back to SG.

Will be rather busy this month, packing my stuffs as if I am a fugitive, sending stuffs back home, cooking "Angry Penne", trying to win the Spanish league with Real Madrid in Winning Eleven 9 and other misc errands. But school related and the "What to bring home" luggage slogging is taking quite a toll.

Will have American friends visiting me in SG as well as catching up with my SG friends and Japanese friends all in ma homeland. Not that I am really all that excited to go back but to escape the scorching heat of summer here and then be back just in time to catch the autuum and then the chilly white winter, doesn't sounds bad at all.

Ok last notes...

Read the news this morning on Channel News Asia webbie on the piracy in China with regards to the Olympics. Sure had a good laugh and indeed it brightened my day. The word "Fake" were used with little constraint from CDs to DVDs, movies to books, from LV to Gucci in the article but I was hoping to see people, attitude, character. Well there weren't exact or direct inferences but if you do read between the lines, you will see that a huge "WE ARE A HUGE SUPERFICIAL JOKE just for the Olympics!" scrawled in bold red font across the main page. God I can't express how much I love the "Chinese" for being so shallow. It's almost as if going into the men's toilet and seeing your long lost army kaki peeing and then because you got nothing to say you actually spurted, "Eh long time no see, peeing ah?"
